The Search for My Father

You looked at me on the ground, saw an enemy,   Judged by the world’s cruel tendency.   Their behavior was harsh, their hearts turned cold,   I was lost, unsure, with no hand to hold.   Oh! Sorrows wrapped me in their brick-like weight,   They abandoned me, leaving me to fate.   My father’s absence became my pain,   You, my father, left me to suffer in vain.   Yet, I caught the scent of hope’s embrace,   Dreamed of finding my father’s face.   I rejoiced at the thought, my heart took flight,   For in him, I sought the guiding light.   I found my father, and joy filled my soul,   A bond restored, a heart made whole.   You, my father, brought peace anew,   In acceptance, love and hope grew.   The work of forgiveness touched my core,   In its grace, my heart soared once more.   The past was healed, the pain erased...

The Silent Storm

This poem is based on a true story:  Soft-spoken, kind, a gentle face,   Yet darkness stirred in a quiet space.   A man of his words, a name they knew,   But the storm within, none saw through.   On that fateful day, the silence broke,   A pistol’s roar, his anguish spoke.   Four colleagues fell, their lives undone,   By the hand of a friend with a loaded gun.   Colleague escaped, the lucky one,   Through chaos and death, he sought the sun.   Crawling past shadows, past fear’s tight grip,   He fled the truck, a narrow slip.   To his ex-love’s house, the killer drove,   A final act where pain’s thread wove.   She washed her face, unaware of fate,   A single shot sealed her cruel debate.   Five hundred meters, his steps grew slow,   To his own home, where despair would grow.   A note he left, scratched with...

Granny's Hard Love

In the quiet house, the hunger grows,   A tale of need that nobody knows.   Granny sits with her sternest glare,   Her love wrapped in rules, her heart laid bare.   "Work first, then eat," she firmly states,   Ignoring the empty plate that waits.   I plead with her, my strength is low,   But she insists, "Toil helps you grow."   The energy’s gone, my limbs are weak,   A morsel of bread is all I seek.   Yet Granny stands, unyielding, still,   Her lessons forged from iron will.   Her past was hard, her struggles deep,   A life where work was food to reap.   But now her ways feel cold and cruel,   A heavy weight, an ancient rule.   Oh Granny, can't you see my plight?   The hunger dims my inner light.   I need your love, not just your lore,   To rise and work, I need much more.   But as the daw...

The Goddess of Strength

She walks like a whisper, yet commands the air,   A vision of power, beyond compare.   The gym is her stage, her throne of steel,   Each motion she makes, a strength you can feel.   Her beauty ignites like a blazing sun,   A masterpiece painted, second to none.   Muscles that shimmer, a glow so divine,   A balance of fierce and a heart so kind.   But it's not just her body, her radiant face,   It’s her soul that moves with effortless grace.   Her laughter’s a melody, warm and free,   A symphony calling, captivating me.   Oh how she inspires, a queen of her craft,   Lifting the world, her spirit unmasked.   Through sweat and effort, she conquers each fight,   A warrior of day, a dreamer of night.   My heart melts softly whenever she's near,   A friendship so rare, so precious, so clear.   She’s a goddess of str...

A Woman

A WOMAN I gaze upon the stars, I see light, I gaze upon the stars; I feel love's might, I gaze upon the stars, immersed in love's flight, I gaze upon the stars, my heart takes flight. I turn to the woman, her grace sublime, I turn to the woman, a star in her prime, I turn to the woman, my heart keeps time, I turn to the woman, a gem, so fine. My heart gleams like a diamond rare, Cherished like gold, with utmost care, I turn to the woman, joy beyond compare, Lost in thoughts of you love's tender snare. My heart yearns for yours, in endless chase, Yours sought mine, in love's embrace, Your voice, a melody, my senses race, Your every move, my soul's happy place. ©Author Brian Makara 2025.

Drugs

DRUGS Why can't you grant yourself forgiveness? You tainted the minds of our youth, Why can't you grant yourself forgiveness? You’re a murderer, extinguishing our future's truth. O, you poison, seeping through veins, Parents weep in shared sorrow's reigns, What mercy have you shown, none but pain? For our nation's dreams, you've sown disdain. Earth longs for shape, for futures bright, But you drugs cling to shadows, shun the light, You crave dominion in you might, Yet our visions fade, drowned in night. No! Our hopes shattered in despair, Echoes of hunger of souls laid bare, Mercy, where? Your grip unfair, In your cruel hands, dreams tear. You the merciless, where's your grace? From graves, youth bloom, in a tragic chase, Your allure brings tears a bitter embrace, Peace you promise, yet destruction you embrace. You're a ravenous beast without reprieve, Devouring innocence without a need to grieve, You drugs, you have destroyed youth’s future, You drugs, ...
